FakeSMC

FakeSMC is a legacy SMC emulator that mimics the Apple SMC chip, allowing macOS to boot on non-Apple hardware. It was the original SMC emulator for Hackintosh before VirtualSMC.

Important Note

VirtualSMC is recommended for all new builds. FakeSMC is no longer actively maintained (last updated late 2018). Use it only if you have specific compatibility issues with VirtualSMC.

Installation

  1. Download from the Bitbucket repository
  2. Copy FakeSMC.kext to EFI/OC/Kexts/ (OpenCore) or EFI/CLOVER/kexts/other/ (Clover)
  3. Add the kext to your config
  4. Do NOT use with VirtualSMC

Use VirtualSMC for all new builds. FakeSMC is legacy and no longer maintained.
